Police have appealed for witnesses over a homophobic assault in central London that left a man critically ill.

The 62-year-old victim and a friend were verbally abused near Trafalgar Square on 25 September by a woman.

He went to remonstrate with her but she and her two friends, a man and another woman, attacked him and kicked him when he fell to the ground.

The man was taken to hospital where he remains in a critical condition with serious head injuries.

His 30-year-old friend suffered minor injuries.

‘Vicious attack’

Det Ch Insp Alexis Boon said: “This was a vicious homophobic attack on two men who had done nothing more than come into central London to enjoy a night out and were verbally abused and assaulted within minutes of getting off the bus.

“This was an isolated incident but the three suspects may have been abusive to members of the public earlier on in the evening.

“I want to appeal for witnesses, not just to anyone who may have seen the assault, but also to anyone who may have had contact with this group earlier on the evening.”

The suspects were seated in the area before the assault at about 2245 BST.

They are all described as being aged between 16 and 20 and the two females had blonde hair.

The male was described as dark-skinned, about 5ft 8ins tall with black hair.

Why

Sorry to the Victim and his family and friends, hope he recovers well.

I am going to London next month, and really didn’t want to read this appalling act of Homophobia.

So why can’t people just accept Gays and get on with their own lives and come to think of it just leave everyone to their own devices, but that will never happen, just beyond believe that in 2009 people are being abused and beaten because they love someone of the same sex, Gay people don’t go round abusing “straight” people so why don’t they just leave LGBT community alone.

Someone suggested a Demonstration in Major towns and cities but I think it may just add more fuel to the fire, or a standoff between the LGBT and Straight community would happen and this is not what we want, I agree with being able to walk side by side with everyone else.

This attack was by females as well as a male, I think some women can be worse than the men for the verbal abuse, and the stuff they come out with is beyond believe sometimes and I am not surprised that women where involved here, I think what has happened here they have wound the male up and so he didn’t look or feel weak in front of the females he has got involved and also attacked this man.

In London there is more CCTV than other places so why the hell after these people have done this crime they still haven’t been caught, but they will say at the time of the incidents the CCTV wasn’t working or being serviced, that’s the normal excuse they use.

So ok 11pm at night in London’s Trafalgar square there would have been many people around, so why didn’t someone help these people and contact the police quicker, and also the police are appealing for witnesses, reason for this is because the law is too soft and the society we live in with guns and knives people are scared for their own well being and worried what these people would have on them.

And to be a witness would involve court and then this would put people off in fear of repo cushions

I was brought up around catholic’s, and some people do hide behind the name of God,
Also you pointed out that “I also believe that some “straight “people are not comfortable with their own sexuality which is why they are so un-accepting of other sexualities different from their own”
I knew someone who was homophobic and was nasty to other gays, but then turns out he was a closet Bi-Sexual and by him acting the way he was, he thought people wouldn’t think he was Bi, However this is no excuse to be Homophobic in any shape or form, they should learn to live with their sexuality before discriminating others.

I am very passionate about people Homophobic for various reasons 1 being I have been a victim myself and so has my partner.

My partner tried to get a LGBT group going but people are wanted it but didn’t want to get involved as they may have been too afraid to stand up in case of violence towards them or in some lesbian cases towards their kids

all we ask is to live in a society that we can all live side by side and not worry about people is violent towards us because of our sexuality, I don’t think this will happen in our live time but may be in year 3000 who knows!!!!
